Ben Fritz

I recently had an opportunity to speak with Ben Fritz, whose work ethic is as inspiring as his doughnuts.

By: Joshua Conner

One of my main motivations for featuring Ben Fritz is because he is the best of both worlds. His work ethics, motivational social media presence & entrepreneurial spirit, inspires me personally & professionally. While the company he co-founded Beacon Doughnuts provides not only scrumptious doughnuts, but is also a brand that positively impacts people. Fritz is a personal growth coach and co-founder of Beacon Doughnuts, based in Chicago, Illinois.

What is a day in the life of Fritz like?

“I usually get up at, let’s say 6 am. I get up, journal. So what journaling looks like for me, is basically freewrite, I have like a big notebook so, I just freewrite, one of those large pages, until I’m done. So it’s like stream of consciousness, I don’t have a specific topic or anything.  Then after that I’ll write a gratitude list of 5 things that I am thankful for. I do a 10 minute meditation using the calm app, and then at that point, I’m ready to eat some breakfast. I get my breakfast, and then I head to the gym, and train a few sessions. Then I come back somewhere along lunch time. I come back, I make some lunch, then I’ll relax for an hour or so.

Usually for the middle part of the afternoon, from 1:30 to 4:30, I’ll do administrative type of stuff, and I’ll write anything that I need to get done. If I have errands to do, I’ll take care of that in that part of the day. Then I will go back to the gym for a couple of sessions at night or I’ll do some of my life coaching calls with clients. Then usually around 7:30 or so, I’ll call it quits for the night. I just try to eat my last bite of food, hanging out with my fiancé and my dog, do a little reading, watch some Netflix, and just some random relaxing time, and try to be in bed around 10:00,” said Fritz.

Fritz often posts insightful quotes on his Instagram, but which one is his favorite?

“Oh man, that’s a really good one, let’s see. That’s a hard one to narrow down, I have so many good ones. Oh, I’ve got a good one, I actually have it saved to use as a post on social media at some point, but the quote is:

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears,” said Nelson Mandela.

I know that it’s short, but so insightful at the same time,” said Fritz.

Fritz says the title of his life story would be, “You never know,” and Bradley Cooper would play him in a movie.

What donut matches Fritz personality?

“You know, I’m actually going to go with an old-fashioned, because it is very simple, but incredible. To me, I think I have very simple rules that I live my life by and I think it’s a great way to do it,” said Fritz.

Fritz’s most memorable year is this year, although he aspires to make every year memorable.

“I would say this year, and I hope the trend continues. I think if each year of my life is not my most memorable, then I am doing something wrong. It’s been like a crazy year for me, most recently had some health issues, I’ve kind of been in the worst health I’ve been in. That was a big challenge and still parts of it continue to be a challenge. I am grateful, I think it’s been an opportunity to open my eyes, just to me personally and life in general.

I got engaged last year, so it doesn’t quite fall in, I was 15 days short of 2018, but still I’m going to count that. So wedding planning, and learning a lot about my relationship. Which I always love to be learning, especially with someone else, I think you can learn at an even faster rate about yourself and who you are in a relationship, that’s been great,” said Fritz.

Fritz also explained this year is his most memorable because he opened Beacon Doughnuts with his cousin and he started life/personal growth coaching.

“I think just in general this year, because this has been a good year for learning. I hope every year, I’m doing bigger and better things,  but also learning. With learning comes failure and success, and that’s what I want. So this year was great, but I hope to make next year more memorable,” said Fritz.

Jockey

Jockey has been a trailblazer in men’s underwear ever since creating the men’s brief in 1934. Eight decades later Jockey is still showing them while expanding their family.

By: Joshua Conner

I first became a fan of Jockey, after I learned about how they pioneered the men’s brief. I really became a fan of the brand, after they sponsored the Men’s Health Ultimate Guy Search contest, it was a collaboration of my two favorite things men’s attire and Men’s Health Magazine.

Jockey is an industry leader in men’s underwear, activewear, thermals and culture. They are sold in numerous retailers including Macy’s, Lord & Taylor, Belk, & Target to name a few. They have inspired the masses with there Show Em & Jockey Being Family campaigns. Jockey has also had a diverse repertoire of brand ambassadors. Baltimore Orioles All Star Jim Palmer,  American model & actor Aaron O’Connell, former football quarterback & baseball outfielder for the New York Mets Tim Tebow, USMC Vet Chris Van Etten, Actor Remi Adeleke & most recently Pro Dog Rescuer Zach Skow. Jockey also has a great social media presence, with over 73,000 followers on Instagram.

Kennedy Gilbertson is a Jesus follower, father, financial professional, freelance: fashion, fitness, and runway model, internationally published & avid wearer of Jockey underwear.

Gilbertson first Jockey product was the underwear three years ago, but what is his preference?

“Boxer briefs,” he says.

How does Gilbertson #showem?

“I guess how I show em is by how I conduct myself in all my everyday affairs, how I live, and the message that I give to people. I mean, you follow me on my social media,  I try to be as: transparent, honest, and open as I can about my life-like my past & what’s currently going on in my life. Really that’s the thing about life, it happens, whether that’s good, bad or indifferent. I think with the social media age we are in today, a lot of people try to paint a pretty picture that everything is rainbows and butterflies and that’s just not true, it’s not real life.

I think by being authentic, transparent and showing people who you really are, they can relate to you. I think that helps break down barriers and cross over boundaries and that helps connect with people,” said Gilbertson.

If Gilbertson could try another Jockey product, what would it be?

“You know, living in Minnesota, thermals would probably be a good this time of year. I could say probably sleepwear or activewear. My daughter gives me a hard time, being a fashion and fitness model, because I rarely wear the clothes. I rotate about 3 shirts, t-shirts, shorts and activewear. I have a closet full of clothes, but I am always looking for something comfortable. I’m at the office during the day and at the gym, at night, I’m with the kids, so I like being in comfortable clothes. So I think athleisure or sleepwear, something that’s comfortable,” said Gilbertson.

SAXX

Ever since Trent Kitsch, had an epiphany for SAXX underwear in 2006, later establishing it in 2007, the brand has been supporting men to live a life with no status quo.

By: Joshua Conner

I will never forget when I purchased my first pair of SAXX underwear. They shined bright like a diamond, in the fog of men’s underwear, in the clearance rack of Marshall’s clothing.

SAXX Underwear is a sensation, integrating in both pop culture & outreach of men’s lives. SAXX’s instagram page has over 65,000 followers. ESPN Body issue alumni Jake Arrieta & Kevin Love, have both served as brand ambassadors. ABC’s Dancing with the Stars professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy even rocked some in a Fourth of July Instagram post. SAXX even created a Movember print, which assists in raising funds for men’s health research.

Danny Page is a performance and nutrition coach, based in Gilbert, Arizona. Page can be considered an influencer with over 86,000 followers on Instagram & 66,000 likes on his Facebook fan page.

“Tactful, driven, confident, and low key,” said Page about what his SAXX underwear say about him.

The first SAXX product that Page purchased were a red, white and blue, Fourth of July print.

“I got my first pair and I fell in love with them,” said Page.

Page’s favorite SAXX product is the straight black boxer brief with the SAXX logo on top.

“That’s my favorite one, I probably have 6 or 7 pairs of just those black ones and wear them everyday,” said Page.

SAXX, has a variety of tops, bottoms and underwear. Page said that he would like to try there tops, because of how he likes the fit of their underwear so much.

SAXX’s hashtag is #nostatusquo, but how does Page live by no status quo?

“You do that by never comparing or contrasting yourself to any other individual, so you live in competition with yourself and not with other people, or other companies or stigmas,” said Page.

Page makes a positive impact in the world, by using his platform of Instagram to share his purpose and why. Page describes it as his “I believe” statement.

“That I believe statement Josh, is I believe how you show up for your physical health, is how you will show up for your business life, family life and spiritual life,” said Page.

Page shares this with as many people as possible. He also makes a positive impact through service and support of others.

If Page’s mantra were a hashtag what would it be?

#goagainsttheflow, said Page.
